Alla Prima or Al Fresco? I don't know about you, but I tend to mix up the meaning of these two Italian terms. Alla Prima or "at once" is a form of expressive oil painting wet on wet where the piece is completed in one session from start to finish. Unlike painting in layers and allowing it to dry in between. I took a leap going for such a large painting alla prima. |
Often, painters labor on pieces for days, weeks and months and it's exhilarating to be in the zone on occasion as this piece flowed for me. Oh, and the meaning of Al Fresco? In the fresh air; outdoors: dining alfresco :)
